EMP Preparedness

EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) is one of the worst disaster scenarios imaginable.

Although an EMP doesn’t kill anyone directly, without preparation it has the potential to kill 90% of the affected population indirectly within a year.  The affected area could be as large as the entire American or Eurasian continent.

The likelihood of an EMP occurrence within the next 10-20 years is so high that we cannot afford to ignore it.  Our technical civilization is becoming increasingly vulnerable.  Being unprepared is totally unacceptable.  The US Government is not doing enough to prepare the civilian population for the aftermath of an EMP.  Commercial products have focused largely on the military.

This website is dedicated to the different aspects of why EMP is a problem, what problems need to be addressed and how the USA can be prepared.

The immediate concern is the current solar flare maximum in 2013.  Even if nothing happens around 2013, the risk of a catastrophic disruption due to increasingly vulnerable infrastructure remains. If a major event happens sooner, the contributions of an initiative like EMP Preparedness 2013 would be decisive and life-saving for a vast number of people.  Every single step that a grass-roots effort orchestrated via the Internet is made toward EMP Preparedness, public awareness and public education is a step in the right direction.

The vision of EMP Preparedness 2013 is to turn an extended EMP disaster into a survivable event.  Moreover, it is the vision to have the US economy back on its feet in a few days and to have it in a position to thrive again after a catastrophe has occurred.

EMP Preparedness 2013 is not the isolated idea of a few founders to save the USA from the consequences of an EMP.  Many pioneers have prepared the soil for the seed that the founders of this initiative want to plant.  The orchestrated, collaborative grass-roots efforts of a lot of people are required to turn this vision into reality.

The founders of the EMP Preparedness 2013 see the Internet-based Expert Community as the first important stepping stone, creating the foundation for the necessary next steps.  This Community of Experts can generate the knowledge and advice required for a comprehensive preparedness strategy.  Similar to open source or complex science projects, social media methodologies and existing Internet-based collaboration tools can be used to create a large, productive, results-oriented community.

In a second step, the knowledge created is the foundation for the education and certification of a much larger group of EMP Consultants, which could then create and sustain hundreds of thousands of consumer- and business-funded jobs.  Because of the Internet, these EMP Consultants, confronted with concrete challenges in preparedness implementation, can immediately circle back to the Community of Expert for answers and suggestions.

The Expert Community can also offer these educated and qualified EMP Consultants the opportunity to develop the reputation necessary for larger commercial projects.  Because time will be of the essence, the trust in competencies must be created much faster than it would naturally evolve in the offline world – the Expert Community can play an important role in this process.

The purpose of the EMP Preparedness 2013 Expert Community is to accelerate the collective learning process, creating in the bargain a vast pool of know-how and how-to information which can be used by an increasing number of people for the preparation in their local communities.

The founders of this initiative hope to convince high-net worth individuals to support this effort with loans or donations to the organization, without having the IRS tax exemption already in place. Additionally, we are seeking support from a foundation as a fiscal sponsor.
